Eric has been working hard, and we get to reap the benefits! The other night, he dropped off a few versions of the logo with various styles of writing. The letters in the word BLOOD seem to be holding him up a bit and he wanted my opinion. So, we started chatting online.
I can understand the difficulty with letters though. I’m not a visual artist, but I still understand that expressing tone and meaning with predetermined shapes (that each have their own connotation!) has got to be challenging. Finding the right amount of nastiness for the word is a careful matter of slant, pointedness, and overlap.
Eric and I were able to chat while he had his drawing apparatus fired up, and we went a couple rounds of iterations. Firstly, I told him that I wanted the roots a bit longer. And the result?
The result was longer roots. Crazy.
I told him, however, that I really like when the roots disappeared into the ground a bit. Eric took mere minutes to sketch another version up! It really was pretty cool to work with him live like this.
Definitely liking this… After discussing a bit more, though, we decided that we liked a different version of the “blood” text. Eric also added some detail to the ground, and made the wood flat on top. The result is simply incredible.
Bottom line: Eric is awesome to work with. Now he just needs to “carve” the word into the trunk! Well, I suppose he also has to ink the final draft as well… all in good time though!
